Model UN Conference

Welcome from the Secretary General!
Hi delegates!
I’m Gaby Castillo, this year’s Secretary-General. I’m a senior at Westfield, where I lead our Youth and Government delegation, Mock Trial team, and student newspaper. Outside of school, I work at a law firm, something I’m incredibly passionate about because it lets me advocate for people through some really tough, unjust moments, and that kind of work means everything to me.
This conference has been a constant in my life since freshman year. It’s where I found my voice, my footing, and like this year’s theme reminds us — my community. I don’t say that lightly. This program gave me some of my closest friends, the kind of people who’ve shown up for me through everything. It also introduced me to mentors who believed in me long before I knew how to believe in myself.
This year, I’ve had the privilege of leading your incredible officer corps. They’ve poured hours into preparing for this conference, and somewhere along the way, we became a small family. I’m proud of what they’ve accomplished, but I’m even more proud of how they’ve shown up for each other. Their commitment, not just to the work but to the people behind it, has been the heart of this year.
I won’t pretend MUN is always easy. But I will say this: if you let yourself care, it’ll push you. It’ll teach you how to listen, and how to hold your own. So don’t coast. Speak even if you’re nervous. Ask questions. Take it seriously, because it can mean more than you think.
Can’t wait to see what you all bring to the 2026 conference!
